What a wonderful day!  It started early with a rumbling of thunder, rumble....rumble....flash! KABOOM!  flash, KABOOM!  Jer was out of bed at 630 and was dressed.  I usually stay in bed till about 7 but who wants to miss all that awesome thunder?  It poured rain for about an hour.  It was so refreshing to see and hear.  The day has been gray and cloudy most of the time, and a little sunshine here and there.  Maybe it'll rain again tonight.  :o)

So I got up and made breakfast, and let me tell you about breakfast!  We had GRITS!  And fried eggs and bacon.  It was so good!  Just like I remember at my Aunt Amy's house.  Except she almost always had cantaloupe too. Our cantaloupe was already gone, and it was a really good one.  We also have had a perfect watermelon.  It tasted like a watermelon tasted when I was little.  You know how you remember in the winter how a watermelon tastes?  That was it.

We made super progress today.  The first thing we did after breakfast was go find the place to get the picture glass cut.  They didn't charge us anything to cut our own glass and we got some little glass shelves for the medicine cabinet where they were missing.  They cost because it was their glass.  The place we called first said he would charge $20 to cut our picture frame glass!!  So we were really happy to find this place.

We came home and I cleaned the glass and Jer finished painting the mantel.

Hey!  I just saw how to enlarge these pictures!

So when he finished painting the mantel he hung the big curtain rod.  We had been waiting for that wall to be painted and dry and it finally was ready.

When that was up I ironed the curtain (which was challenging) and we got out our hooks to hang it and we had the WRONG kind.

So we went to Walmart, now one of our daily haunts, and bought the right kind of hooks and while we were there we bought a light to go under the cabinets over the wet bar.  While I put the hooks in the curtain Jer installed the light over the sink.  What a really really nice man.  After that he installed the little brackets for the little windows around the fireplace and in the corner of the living room.
You see the wall around the appliance doors?  Jer painted that and then the little bit of wall under the hearth.  I then tried to hang the curtains that go in the little windows.  I had made them before and expected to just hang them as I had the previous ones in the bedrooms, but for some reason they were all too short. :o(  So I had to add some fabric to the tops and bottoms of them all.  But in the end they still look good.

After dinner Jer painted the picture frame that he had changed from 30x36 to 30x30 for which we needed the glass cut and then touched up the mantel where there were microscopic little places that needed another touch of black.

And so this is where we ended up today.

I do wish you could see it in real life.  It's so beautiful after all the man's work.  Weeks and weeks of work.  And tonight we have privacy!

  1. WOW! That looks great! The hearth really stands out now instead of jumbling into the mess of ugly fake brick. And I like the black mantel. It works. Your curtains look soft and pretty, too. I really like it!
