Hooray! Today we got started putting up the wallboard on the fireplace wall! Yesterday we took off the fake brick and this morning we took out all the staples and cleaned up the area so that it could receive the wallboard. We went to Lowes and got it and brought it home and Jer cut it out and we put it up. It took a while to get it just right, but in the end it looks great just being there as wallboard. Tomorrow will start the mudding and the sanding and the mudding and the sanding ad infinitum.
While the mud is drying we will see what else we decide to do. We have some little projects like replacing the missing drawer in the kitchen, filling the empty holes in the ceilings where there are supposed to be wires for ceiling lights but there aren't and so forth, but we also want to put up a sort of wall bed in the office. Lara is loaning us a complete double bed for the spare bedroom and we brought a queen mattress/box spring set that we want to build a box for that will fold up onto the back wall of the office for when we have guests. :o) We are hoping for lots of visits from important people in our lives. We also need to make some sheer curtains and get spring rods for the narrow windows that are in the living room and bedrooms. When the fireplace wall is finished and the dust settles we will hang the curtain over the sliding glass door and finally have some privacy in the evenings. And that will just about take care of the summer fixing up. It already feels so much more like a home instead of a project with the kitchen done.
Wow. That already looks so much better.
