Today we
bought a printer. We have been frustrated trying to write down the complex instructions to get different places here so we decided to look at printers. We got a nice one that does everything for less than $40 (!) at WalMart. It was well worth the money to save us from our frustrations and getting lost. Yesterday going to the Restore in Pasadena was a real experience. I can't imagine why, but Jer is having a hard time remembering directions here--I put it down to a lack of mountains--but you would have laughed out loud to see us getting to Pasadena and back. Anyway, that was the last straw and we are very happy with our little printer: our new best friend.
Jer put up
the laundry area front extension today. As you may remember, the dryer was about an inch too deep to fit behind the nice shuttered doors we bought for the laundry area. So Jer decided the best solution was to extend out the front of the area to allow for the doors. Today he put on the extension and it's fortunate that our upstairs neighbors are out of town for a few days because it was pretty noisy for a while. The extension looks great. He will sand it and paint it tomorrow and maybe put up the doors Saturday. That will be a major improvement to the place. The laundry is the first thing you see as you enter the condo and it will be nice to have those doors there.
He also heard from the Jackson Hewitt employer in the area who said he would be happy to have Jer come work in one of his offices in January. Jer will make contact when we come down the end of November and the employer will set him up. That's very good news for Jer. He does enjoy doing taxes.
I got the
container for our kitchen utensils to free up the drawers today. When I saw how small the kitchen was in the pictures Lara sent I thought it would be wise to have the kitchen utensils on the stove in a container so that they were readily available and didn't take up valuable space. So today at the dollar store I not only got the container but a whole bunch of utensils too inn one package. The utensils are good quality for how much they cost and I'm pleased with the purchase and with it's convenience.
And lastly, I bought
some pretty flowers for the guest bathroom. While we were at WalMart I saw some pretty lilies that would go nicely in the blue vase I brought with us. I think they look very nice.
The thing I like best about today is that Jer took some time to relax in between times. He would do part of the project and then go sit and read a while. Then he would do more of the project and then take a break. The work will get done in time and he doesn't need to wear himself out doing it. He gets to enjoy some relaxing times too. There isn't a lot for me to do after cooking and cleaning a little. He has the burden of the work. So I'm glad he has decided to take it a little more slowly and relax some. We are in a place now that the important necessary things are done for comfort and convenience. The rest is for eye appeal. Important, but not vital to be done right away.
As he was cutting the boards for the extension he had to go in and out of the glass door which doesn't open very far. We didn't know exactly why it won't open very far but he got it figured out. Apparently the condo settled a little there and the track is too low in a spot. He knows now how to fix it and will when he has time.
I like your flowers! They do look really nice with that vase. It is looking really homey in there. Thanks for all the pictures.
