Today we got
up and got ready and drove to Baytown again to take back the Comcast box that we had to replace a few days ago. We also visited Lowe’s to
get materials for continuing the improvements.
Dad had to get a little grindstone for the drill to grind down the track
for the living room glass door. It seems
the wall had settled and cramped the door so it wouldn’t open more than about
18 inches. So Dad took off the back
frame to the door and cut off the top and bottom then replaced it and then he
ground down the track so that now the door will slide! Yay!
We also got
some office chair mats so we can roll around over the carpet in the
office. And we got a file box and folders
to contain all the papers we have collected since coming. Makes
the desk so much neater!
When we got
into our little condo parking lot there were two police cars and a police
motorcycle in our parking space and the one next to it. We came on in and watched out the window to
try and see what was going on. We saw a
young man in front of Mitzi’s place and a young woman come out of the house. She got into the police car and they sat for
a while and talked and she got out and finally gave the boy something and she
went into the house, the boy walked away and the police car drove away along
with the motorcycle cop. I went to buy
some groceries and get a haircut and when I came back the other police car was in
the parking spot still. Assuming they
were all done with their business, I went over and asked politely if the
policeman would let me park in my space so I wouldn’t get in trouble parking in
someone else’s space. He said, I’m
investigating a death, Ma’am. But I can
move. I insisted he not, but he did and
I parked there and went into the house.
I felt terrible that I had been so insensitive and ignorant of the
gravity of the incident. I figured it
was Mitzi that had died. She was skin
and bone anyway. Maybe she had
cancer. I didn’t know. But the neighbors next to Mitzi’s place were
out in the afternoon and seemed to be crying so I went out to see if I could
offer any assistance/food/sympathy. That
neighbor said, no, it wasn’t Mitzi. She
had had some kind of disturbance there but it was THIS family that had had the
loss. That’s all she said so I offered help
and she said we could pray for them. So
I said we would and that was that.
In the
evening an HOA lady came by to talk about the repair that is needed on our
patio and she said that the lady’s father had died. He lived with them and of course it was hard
for them to see him go. I was just glad
it wasn’t her son in a car accident or something of that nature. I want to take over a Riley cake today to
show we care and weren’t just curious.
I am glad it wasn’t Mitzi since she was such a nice lady and we actually
know her. I took the cake over but they weren't there. Now I still have a Riley cake.
After all
that drama Dad got busy building the cabinets that go over the frig and
stove. We bought them at the Restore
still in the boxes for half the price they were at Home Depot. They are twins except one is brown and the
other is white. Dad is painting the
brown one and they should be ready to go up maybe Monday.
He sanded
the filler he put in the nail holes around the laundry area so that’s ready to
paint now too.
We relaxed
and read for a while and had dinner and watched a movie.
