Moving right along.  Now Jer has made a little list of all the finishing up tasks that still need to be done.  We have completed most of the major tasks.  I leave for Illinois tomorrow and he wanted to be sure that all the two person jobs were finished before his right hand girl left him.  Yesterday we put the sink in the cabinet and secured it.  Major worry but now complete. He still has to connect the plumbing but he's not as worried about that as he was setting the sink in place because when he cut the hole the saw blade bent and made the hole a little too big on one side.  But it's all good now.  He still has to repair the walls and put the filler wood on each side and grout around the cabinet.  All one man jobs.

We rehung the newly painted shutters outside again.  Didn't know if he could do it because the holes in the brick weren't cooperating.  We did it.  And Jer finished painting the front door and got the hardware back on it.  We had been living for several days with a ladder against it in the evenings so no one could come in and surprise us in the night.

And we finished the steps into the garage.  Major worry and it turned out great.  That glue is like the tar baby as I said before with the front steps but we are learning creatures so we were prepared this time with a rag and some goop remover handy.  We had no major mishaps, but just lots of stress getting it right.  We did the top step the first night and then the rest of the steps the next day when the top had really set and was secure.

After the carpet was down and made the best we could make it we had to make sure it would stick to the steps over night.  So we stacked heavy objects that we had at hand on them.

The next day the steps were done and beautiful!  We were so happy to be able to use the steps again because for a couple days we were having to go around the house to get to the refrigerator that we had put in the garage.  :o) The goop is still really strong smelling, but it will eventually get better.

Now isn't that prettier than the torn green carpet and chipped white rail?

While Jer was busy doing a job only he could do I helped take the grout out from between the tiles in the entry so that he could just pry them up. That is finally complete.  No more tiles!!  Just really ugly linoleum.  You have to wonder what we all were thinking in the 60s!
We took the little sofa to DI.  Jer is now watching tv lying on the cushy things.  He needs to have a way to stretch out his legs so they don't cramp in the evenings.  In the morning we will take my bed down to the garage and take the range out also.  Jer will live for the next 3 weeks microwaving his meals.  He's pretty resourceful and also plans to lunch at Smith's deli from time to time.

I am so glad this is finally coming to a close.  We have been at this remodel for 2 months and it has grown old.  We are tired and ready to think of something else for a while.  While I am gone he will finish up the other things that need to be done and when I return we will get a UHaul truck and a team of movers who will pack it all up and then we will leave.  On to the next part of the adventure!!
