Happy Fourth of July! Robert hung out the flag first thing this morning.
We grownups just read and relaxed but the kids were busy. Robert and Alice made magic twirlers. Alice made a great American flag to wave and practiced the piano and did a great handstand against the wall.
At 11 we got lunch ready and went to the parade.
Susan and the kids rode bikes and Bobby and we walked, Bobby pulling the wagon with all the chairs and umbrellas in it. We got there and found a perfect spot so that we could sit in the shade of the umbrellas and the kids could stand at the curb. It was a great community parade with high school bands and Shriners on motorized tricycles and a couple of big Sesame Street balloons.
It was a beautiful day with mild temperatures and refreshing breezes; it was a perfect parade day. There were people walking and throwing out candy that the kids loved to gather up and there were also people squirting water at the crowd. The kids ran out to get wet. One firetruck was putting out a great spray that drenched whoever got in the way. The kids were waiting and waiting for their friend and backdoor neighbor who promised to throw them candy. She finally came by and they waved and said Diane! Diane! She ran back and brought them each a candy!!
Grandpa liked the stage coach in the parade.
James enjoyed a plum during the festivities.
After the parade we came home and rested a bit and then the kids played outside in the front for a while. They found a deposit of soft dust to play fairy dust and smoke with.
Then we had a delicious dinner of barbecued chicken and watermelon. The kids had all done their chores so it was movie night!! We watched Hotel Transylvania projected on the wall. Cool way to watch a home movie!
