Today was momentous!  The man finally finished organizing the garage and hung the tennis balls to help us park the cars far enough in to close the door, and we PULLED OUT THE HOLLY BUSHES!!  Those holly bushes have been on our list since before we moved here.  They are huge and prickly and all along the driveway.  We clipped off all the branches of one over a couple weeks and put them in the garbage container so we could eventually pull out the roots, but today we just threw that chain around the bottom of the first and then second and then third bushes and yanked them out of the ground!!  the rains had softened the ground and the roots had just spread out on the surface and so they were mostly easy to pull out.  The one on the corner was more solidly rooted, but we will dig the rest of the roots out manually next week.  The roots spread and more holly bushes grow up from the roots.  We will have to take special care to get them all gone.  But we have made a marvelous start!  And when the leaves fall on the ground they are as sharp and prickly as thorns.  We will be really happy to get them all gone.  What was that little lady thinking to plant them all along the driveway?!!

Look at the sweat on the man in these two pictures.  His shirt is sopping wet from the humidity.  I weeded the driveway Thursday and sweat was dripping off my nose and getting into my eyes and my hair looked like I had gone swimming.  But it didn't feel so bad with a little breeze.

Beating the dirt off the roots so we can lift it to carry it back.

We plan to plant the little lemon tree there along the side of the driveway and we will have to think of what else we want there.  It's the one side of the house that actually gets sun for a few hours a day.

See the arbor there by the window?  There's a little rose bush there that has several beautiful peach colored roses on it.  It makes me very happy every time I walk by it.  Hopefully it will decide it likes the arbor and the attention and will put on more leaves and blooms.

The ESL class went well with us all having fun.  There were only 4 students that came, but they were really willing to cooperate in the discussion and work at practicing.  It was the day after the hurricane and so the rest of the students may have decided that they didn't want to risk coming out.  We will see what happens this next week.

We had another couple over for family home evening Monday and it was a nice visit.  Just getting acquainted with them a little better, and it will take a little time.  We plan to get together every other Monday.

The condo is still under contract.  With the storm and all the rain we have had the appraisers have all had to reappraise the houses they already did so we have to wait our turn.  That's the one thing holding up the deal.  The buyers were supposed to have the funding solid by now, but the appraisal is the key and it's late.  We will be really happy when that's done.

Father's day tomorrow.  I'm really grateful for my dad and grateful we still have Dad around with us.
